Equipping Workshop: Leading Kids in Worship
If I’m not a worship leader or musician, should I come for the next Kidmin Equipping Workshop on “Leading Kids in Worship”? The answer is absolutely “YES!”
As children’s ministry teachers and volunteers, we must begin by first recognising that leading in worship is not simply the role or responsibility of the teacher standing in front of the children. While they might be responsible to craft a setlist of songs to sing or to choreograph simple and relevant actions for kids to follow, the truth is that every teacher and volunteer is a worship leader in their own right on any given Sunday!
Ultimately, leading kids in worship is a team effort that involves everyone - both those who are on-stage and those who are off-stage.
With that in mind, how can we create an environment where kids are engaged and responsive to worship? And what can we do to move children from passive onlooker to active participant?
This workshop will help kidmin volunteers understand and find answers to the following questions:
- What is a Biblical theology of worship?
- Why is it important that our kids learn to express themselves in communal worship? What is the end goal we should keep in mind?
- What are the roles and responsibilities of a worship leader during worship?
- What are the roles and responsibilities of teachers / helpers during worship?
- How can everyone - worship team, teachers, volunteers - work together to create a space where kids will feel safe and free to express themselves in worship?
A fireside chat with the Rt Rev Kuan Kim Seng
In addition, we will be hosting a fireside chat with the Rt Rev Kuan Kim Seng, Bishop of the Horn of Africa and Gambella (Anglican Communion)! A passionate advocate for children and children's ministry, he is especially interested in seeing kids rise up as evangelists and missionaries to those around them. We're privileged to have him join us for this event, and we know that we will be blessed as we hear him share!

About the trainers
Elvin and Esther Foong are the founders of The Treasure Box SG, a training and resourcing company that aims to help families grow closer to each other and closer to God together. As full-time itinerant family and kids' ministers, they believe that a parent's first ministry is in the home, and their first disciples are their own kids. Their vision is for a generation of spiritually healthy families to rise up and display Jesus' love to a lost and broken world.
Esther was formerly the Head of Department for Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) in an MOE Primary School, where she was recognised for spearheading many community projects, including character and citizenship assessment framework, student leadership programmes, parent-partnership programmes and cyber-wellness programmes. She has also received several awards for her creativity in teaching, as well as for her passion and contributions to the fraternity. Esther was also selected to be groomed under the Future Leaders Programme in MOE and was elected as valedictorian for her cohort of leaders. In late 2017, following a stint as a Policy Planning Officer in MOE HQ, Esther left public service to focus fully instead on equipping families and running educational children's and family programmes in Singapore, leveraging on her 14 years of experience in public education.
Currently pursuing a Master of Divinity degree at Singapore Bible College, Elvin has served as a full-time Children’s Programmes Coordinator in a local church, where he got to impact and encourage families. His dream is to resource, train and inspire parents towards re-building the family altar. He has over a decade of experience in strategic planning as well as human resource and talent management in his previous role as a HR policy officer in the Republic of Singapore Air Force. Today, he is actively serving as a consultant to church pastors and organisation leaders. Elvin enjoys watching superhero movies, playing video games, and his idea of a dream holiday is to go to a beach resort and do absolutely nothing.
Elvin and Esther are also the co-founders and core team members of SGFamilies, a ground-up movement by parents that aims to raise wholesome generations together. Elvin and Esther also offer consultation services to churches, companies and agencies, to help them understand and support families and children effectively, through strategic planning, branding and training.
